What is not a netiquette?

  • Each platform has different rules: read them, use them, respect them.
  • Linkedin is for professional use and Twitter gives information, whereas Facebook, Instagram and TikTok allow you to share almost any content.

Rules are important

  • Not everybody can answer you when you write, people have things to do.
  • Choose the right time to send things, not at school.
  • Don't share too many things, people may feel overwhelmed.

Mind everyone's times

  • Nobody likes being ignored, it is necessary to show interest in emails or instant messages.
  • If you can't answer because it will take some time, send a quick response saying you will answer soon. That way people know you care.

Answers required

  • Online learning is quite common nowadays. If you share what you know other people may learn something new from you.
  • Remember all the times you have looked for something on the internet: someone else took the time to share it for you.

Spread knowledge

  • Acting behind the screen may make you think you are invincible, but you aren't.
  • Treat people the way you want to be treated. It is very easy to be rude or agressive when you are not being seen.

Don't let your emotions rule

  • Do not use CAPITAL LETTERS, when you write that way it means you are shouting. People do not like being shouted at.
  • Do not use sarcasm, it isn't understood by everybody and may create awkward situations.
  • Mind your spelling!

Be polite

  • Do not be a hater. Writing a bad comment is sometimes necessary, but it does not have to be a habit.
  • Selfism is bad: if you only publish about yoursefl, people will get tired. Try and share other things.
  • Being unsupportive: we all like it whan people help us, so why not try and help too?
  • Copy and paste: try to be original ahd don't copy other people's publications. It is better if you share your own content.

What you do not have to do

  • Don't send big archives, you don't know how much storage space people have. You can use the cloud or some websites for that purpose.
  • If you send sensible info use encryption or passwords. This way you show you care for people.

Share the right format

  • It is important that you check and compare your sources whenever you state something. It is horrible to be mistaken and everybody likes to be relied.
  • Adding links is a good way to support any objective statement.
  • Check also what others say and evaluate their sources.

Support what you say

  • We all commit mistakes, let people learn from their errors.
  • If you have to correct someone do it carefully.
  • Treat people the way you want them to treat you.

We are human

  • Don't share somebody else's e-mail without permission, it could lead to receiving spam.
  • Don't label people in your pictures without asking first. Not everybody wants to be known.

Privacy is important
