Traditional Rows or Columns: It works well for teacher-centered instruction, as it allows the teacher to easily interact with students and maintain classroom management. However, it may not be as conducive to collaborative learning or group activities. Clusters or Pods: It encourages collaboration and communication among students, making it easier for them to work on group projects or engage in discussions. It also promotes a sense of community within the classroom. U-shaped or Horseshoe:. This allows the teacher to have a clear view of all the students while still encouraging interaction and discussion among the students themselves. Flexible Seating: Offering a variety of seating options, such as: floor cushions, stability balls, or low tables with mats, gives children the freedom to choose seating that best suits their learning preferences and comfort. Circle: This seating arrangement is particularly useful for group discussions, storytime, or activities where everyone needs to see and interact with one another easily. It encourages inclusivity and participation. Quiet Zones: Designating specific areas in the classroom for quiet individual work or reading can help students concentrate and minimize distractions.

tEENS

Group Tables or Pods: Teenagers often enjoy collaborating and working with their peers. Grouping desks or tables together in pods allows them to engage in group discussions, group projects, and peer-to-peer learning. This setup fosters teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Circle or U-shaped: Creating a seating arrangement in a circle or U-shape can facilitate open discussions and promote a sense of community within the classroom. It allows all students to see and hear each other, encouraging active participation and inclusivity. Flexible Seating: Providing various seating options like standing desks, bean bags, comfortable chairs, or floor cushions gives teenagers the freedom to choose a seating arrangement that suits their comfort and learning style. This can increase engagement and attentiveness during class Rotation Stations: Similar to the previous suggestion for younger children, rotation stations can also work well with teens. This approach allows for a variety of learning activities and keeps the students engaged by switching between different tasks. Designated Presentation Area: Creating a space at the front of the classroom for student presentations, debates, or discussionscan encourage public speaking skills and boost confidence.

Adults

U-shaped or Horseshoe: Placing chairs in a U-shape or horseshoe configuration allows for face-to-face interaction among participants and provides a clear view of the instructor or presenter. This arrangement is well-suited for discussions, workshops, and interactive training sessions. Circle: Seating adults in a circle can promote an inclusive and democratic environment. This arrangement encourages open discussions, active participation, and equal opportunities for all participants to contribute. Classroom Pods: Creating small pods of desks or tables with chairs allows for group work and collaboration while maintaining some level of individual workspace. This setup is suitable for training sessions that involve both group activities and individual tasks. Semi-Circle: This allows for a balance of participant engagement and focus on the instructor or presenter. Flexible Seating: Providing a mix of seating options, such as standing desks, bean bags, or lounge chairs, can cater to different comfort preferences and learning styles among adult learners. Fishbowl/onion ring: This unique arrangement involves placing chairs in an inner circle for active participants and an outer circle for observers. Participants in the inner circle engage in discussions or activities, while those in the outer circle take notes and later offer feedback or insights.

Cooperative vs collaborative strategies

Talking chips: students are given the same number of chips at the start of the discussion. Every time a learner speaks, they surrender a chip. Talking chips are another tool to make sure everyone participates equally and gets a chance to speak. Peer Review Participants pair up to give each other feedback on an assignment. Jigsaw Activities Description: Divide the class into small groups, and assign each group a different section of a text. Each group becomes an "expert" on their section. Afterward, reassemble the groups so that each new group contains one "expert" from each section. The experts then teach their section to the others.

Literature Circles Students form small groups, with each group reading a different book or a different section of a book. They discuss the content, themes, and language, and each group member takes on a different role (e.g., summarizer, questioner, connector). The group then shares its insights with the class. Story Chain Writing Students form a circle or sit in small groups. One student begins by writing the opening sentence of a story. The next student adds another sentence, continuing the story. This process continues until the story is complete. The group can then edit and refine the story together.

Cooperative vs collaborative strategies

Snowballing: Learners discuss something or investigate an issue in pairs. The pairs then join another pair to form a group and share their findings.  The small groups then join together to make a larger group: 2 →4 →8 →16 → whole-class. Games and activities with a competitive element.

Drama and role play can be fun and used successfully in any area of the curriculum. Drama is a very valuable tool for exploring issues, making learning memorable, encouraging co-operation and empathy.

Interactive Wall Designate a section of the classroom wall as an "Interactive Wall" where students can post questions, vocabulary, grammar tips, or cultural notes related to the lesson. Students work in pairs or small groups to contribute regularly to the wall. They can also respond to or build upon others' posts.

Problem-solving (e.g. send-a-problem, case studies, etc.)
