Employment types
In UK employment law, there are 3 main employment types
Employee
Self-Employed
Contract of Employment
Contractor
Worker
Contract for Services
Employees
Within some of our client accounts, we employ our temporary workforce on employment contracts; usually zero hours. This means that we have to follow some employment processes like; discipline, grievance & TUPE. We sometimes pay people via an outsourced or umbrella payroll company and these individuals are usually on contracts of employment.
Self Employed Contractors
Contractors usually work via their own limited company; often referred to as a personal servcies company (PSC).PSC's are most common within highly skilled sectors like IT, engineering & construction.
Workers
Most of our temporary workforce would be classed as 'workers'. They would usually be engaged on a Contract for Services and are not classed as employees.
