In Headlee’s TedTalk titled “Ten Ways to Have a Better Conversation,” she recommends direct and genuine communication in order to have a conversation where both parties feel heard and respected.

Be Direct

So What?

When engaging in a conversation, be direct to show respect to the other person.

A beneficial and caring conversation requires both parties to speak and listen. We can show our care for others by wanting to learn about them in conversations.

Be Genuine

To make the other person feel heard in the conversation, one must genuinely listen, meaning listen to learn and care not to respond.
