INTRODUCTION

THE BEGINNING

Coldplay is a british band that was formed in 1997, in London. Its members are the lead vocalist and pianist Chris Martin, the guitarist Jhn Buckland, the bassist Guy Berryman, the drummer and backup vocalist Will Champion and the creative director Phil Harvey.

After releasing an EP, Safety (1998), Coldplay signed with Parlophone in 1999. The band's debut album, Parachutes (2000), included their successful single "Yellow" and received a Brit Award for British Album of the Year, a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.

THE BAND´S NAME

FROM STARFISH TO COLDPLAY

Their first name was ´Starfish´. It was an instant decision. They needed to have a name to enter an event, and this was the first one Will Champion thought of.

A few months later, Tim Cromptom, a college friend of Chris´s, who had a band called ´Coldplay´, changed it for another one, releasing this one.Nowadays, Martin keeps thanking Tim Cromptom for allowing them to use the name.

DESCRIPTION

Coldplay has its own identity, because of the vocal color of its singer and also the sound of the band and the way of composing the songs. It's a rock band that makes pop songs. The songs are made for all kinds of audiences. The pounding riffs and the lively melodies are important in its repertoire. Coldplay has stood out with both energetic pulse tracks and ballads. It has a "recital" repertoire, both in those songs that are part of their hits to include on major tours, and others that could go unnoticed.
