The merchants of ¨La Marin¨ expressed their solidarity and, afraid that the same thing could happen to them, decided to unite to ask the municipal authorities to donate land where they could build a market. Finally, the mayor gives them ownership of the land known as ¨El Toril¨ located on Manabí and Av. Pichincha streets. It was declared as a Healthy Market of Ecuador by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and in 1952 it was established properly as ¨El Mercado Central¨.
