In difficult situations, intervene if your mentee is on course to making an impactful mistake. Carefully intervene as to not ecalate the siutation. Intervention can sound like, "Wait just a moment. I noticed you were about to skip a step. Do you remember what you should do first?"
Recognize Risk
Help your mentees with risks involved in various tasks, including what you have encountered in the past that caused you to make a mistake. Sharing this experience will help the mentee avoid unnecessary problems and learn faster.
Make Suggestions
Based on your experience, you can make suggestions to help your mentee avoid common mistakes you've witnessed. Your mentee will appreciate this guidance and feel confident because you've supplied them with special knowledge to help them be sucessful.
Advocate
If your mentee has not been given the tools or resources to successed, you can advocate for them by addressing the issue with superviors or managment.
Help Prepare
When you know a situation will be particuarlly challenging, prepare you mentee with some advice on how to handle the situation BEFORE the event takes place. You not only give them confidence, but you front load some of the support they are going to need.
