Ratio activity

summary

That student will work on the problem on the Smartboard. If the student is having trouble with the question he/she can ask for help from their teammates. If the team get it correct, they get a point. The team with the most points at the end will receive 10 bonus points on their next test grade. The students will also be graded on their particitpation during this activity.

In this lesson, the teacher will create an activity of problems on the Smartboard. These problems will focus on "Understanding the concept of a ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities." Then, the teacher will allow the students to pick a team name. Then, the games will begin! The first group will pick a teammate and that teammate will go up to the board and pick one of the problems on the board.

6th grade:

The students in my 6th grade math class are active learners.

My students are having trouble with the concept of ratios.

A few of my students are havimg trouble with ratios.

My students are also having trouble with describing a ratio relationship between two numbers.

Most of my students just need practice with ratios for their upcoming test. This is what this lesson plan is used for.

This lesson plan is also used for the students that are struggling with this concept.

Standards:

1.7.b: Students use collorabtive technologies to work with others, including peers, experts or communtiy members, to examine issues and problems from multiple viewpoints

ISTE Standards and Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards

6.RP.1: Understand the concept of a ratio language to describe a ratio relationship between two quantities.

9 elements of project based learning

1- Teamwork: This lesson will show team work by the students working in groups to help answer the questions.

6- Task: The task is for the students to come up to the Smartboard and choose a question that I have written on the board. Once they have chosen the question, the students will go to the board and answer that question with the help of their teammates.

2- Anchor: The anchor for this lesson is homework for them to take home and reflect on.

7- Students choice: The students get to chose their team name and which question they want to do.

3- Public Presentation: The students will have to answer the question and show how they completed their work.

8- Student Inquiry: The questions in this activity will focus on real world problems that we are dealing with today.

4- Teacher coaching and feedback: The teacher will help the students as needed and help them understand if they got the incorrect answer.

9- Directions: The students will choose a mathematical question (that is chosen from the teacher) and go up to the board and work the problem on the board. Their teammates will help them work out the problem.

5- Student reflection: Students will reflect on their work after they have completed the activity.

Rubric:

25 points: Creating a team name

25 points: Working the problem chosen on the Smartboard

25 points: Choosing a question

Visual content is a cross-cutting and universal language, like music. We are able to understand images from millions of years ago, even from other cultures.

Name Subject

Our brain is biologically wired to learn through visual content. Almost 50% of our brain is involved in processing visual stimuli.

We don't like to bore in our classes or work with flat content. It's time to bet on dynamic and interactive learning experiences that stimulate the thinking and creativity of each student.

Name Subject

Our brain is prepared to consume visual content. And it makes sense: 90% of the information we process comes to us through sight. That's why visual content helps with faster learning in many cases.

Pose a question or problem that makes the class think; it is the essential ingredient to keep their attention. It is often posed at the beginning of the topic to encourage critical thinkingand participation.

Captamos mejor el contenido visual. Este tipo de contenido está asociado a mecanismos cognitivos y psicológicos. Las cosas entran por los ojos, la primera imagen es la que cuenta. Asociamos el contenido visual con emociones.
