Elements 1 and 2-Anchor & Task. Element 3-Directions

I will introduce 2-dimensional shapes to the students. I will show them the different examples of squares, circles, rectangles, and triangles and work with the students to count the sides and identify them correctly. The students will listen to a video about shapes. The teacher will use her smartboard to show them this youtube video. This video will help the students think about shapes that are aournd them in the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQO1soadGAA

I will ask the students to look around the room to find objects in the classroom that are a particular shape like circle or square. One example could be the tables or desks in the room being rectangles to them.

Elements 4- Student Choice

The students will have a choice in who they choose as a partner for this activity. The students will get to take the partner with them to walk around the room to identify objects as shapes. The partner will help with identifying the shapes in real world objects.

Element 5- Student Inquiry

zstudents will have about 10-15 minutes to look around the room with their partner. One of the partners will write down what shapes they found in the classroom.

Element 6- Collaboration & Teamwork

After the 10-15 minutes is up the students will come back to the rug area. The students will sit down and take turns by raising their hand. They will share what objects they have identified by shapes. The teacher will go on to let each group share their thoughts and what they found.

Element 7- Teacher Coaching & Feedback

Element 8- Student Reflection

After the whole group time, the teacher will have the students back at their group/desks. The teacher will help the students make a 4 page booklet. the booklet will be about 4 objects they identified by there shape in the classroom.

This will be when the students are done with their booklet. The teacher will remind the students of what they need to finish the booklet. The students will sit at their desk and check their work.
