The POV in this chapter is that of William's. We see this because it is written in first-person point of view. This chapter revolves around the Kamkwamba family and how the cope and adjust with their situation-their scarcity of food, their political situation and the daily tasks that they have to overcome. This chapter shows how William is very perceptive and inquisitive of his surroundings, and it shows how he really likes to think and do things himself. This chapter tells us that everyone begings looking for food everywhere- they eat raw mango, wheat husk and evenn stop some meals completely

TThe chapter begins with us seeing how William learns the difference between AC and DC. We see that he is interested, but needs more education than his primary schooling to know more. We see that the Malawian government disagrees with William saying that electricity is a common need.The topic of food and starvation come into the picture in chapter 5, and the Kamkwamba family begin saving up and rationing their food.Outside, the situation is even more desperate and people and willing to eat anything they can find.

William talks about how he begins noticing more people talking about the scarcity of food and that the maize and crops on the borders of state fared less well then theirs and extra storage had run out, and even the surplus grain and wheat that the government had was gone because their new president had sold it for profit and that it had all gone over to Kenya. The floods and drought they had last year had taken its toll on their country, and no one had any extra. The price of food began going up and people were eating whatever they could get.
