Teacher as

LIFELONG LEARNER

KNOWLEDGE

  • Self-awareness
  • Purpose & learning goals for subject, course, & grade level
  • Empathy

I switched school sites in 2022, which means I am teaching new curriculum and using a very different approach from my previous site. My goal is to improve my understanding of my new department's approaches & the curricular goals this model. The principal & my department will be able to tell I am making progress because I will have developed unit plans with my grade-level teams with clearly articulated learning goals & student-centered lesson plans with innovative strategies.

SKILLS

I have a goal to network more with educators outside of the classroom. In my previous district, I had lots of connections with people at various sites in the district & the district office. Being new to a district means rebuilding connections to learn, enact change, and develop initiatives that benefit students. Some ways that others will know I am making progress towards this goal is through participation in more things outside the classroom. I would like to join our district's Curriculum & Instructional Leadership Team.

  • Perseverance & grit
  • Collaborative & positive team member
  • Research & networking

DISPOSITIONS

  • Growth mindset
  • Embraces change & new ideas
  • Curious

In my new department, I am one of the more experienced teachers. As a result, I find that I often have a lot of advice & information to share with the beginning teachers in my department. This has led to a lot less curiosity on my part. For instance, I often think about their practice & how to help them improve. Instead, I would like to continue my own growth & reignite my curiosity. This goes well with my goal for Knowledge since I am learning a new curriculum. My goal is to speak less during meetings & informal discussions in our shared teaching office. My department chair can help me with this goal by observing how often I speak, & how often those are questions or ways to find new information.
