ECHOING
Point out an error, the teacher repeats what the student has said, emphasizing the part of the utterance that was wrong.
REFORMULATION
Used both for accuracy and fluency work is for the teacher to repeat back a corrected version of what the student has said, reformulating the sentence, but without making a big issue of it.
MAKE RUBRICS
The teacher can use rubrics to remember the points and observations s/he made during the activities of speaking and then give feedback to the students. For example:
REPEATING
Ask the student to repeat what they have said.
FACIAL EXPRESSION OR A GESTURE
This needs to be done with care as the wrong expression or gesture can, in certain circumstances, appear to be mocking or cruel.
MOTIVATE
Mentioning students their good performance increases motivation and can be reflected in positive attitudes towards learning.
USE TECHNOLOGY
Use technology to your advantage. Record audio/video; interactive games and quizzes, you can use some platforms like Kahoot quizizz; quizalize, google forms to create polls and surveys, and so on.
HINT
Give a quiet hint to help students remember knowledge they already know.
ACTIVITIES
Do activities like short quizzes, puzzles, exit tickets, true or false.
FOCUS ON THE CORRECT VERSION
If students are unable to correct themselves or respond to reformulation, the teacher can say the correct version, emphasizing the part where there is a problem before saying the sentence normally, or s/he can say the incorrect part correctly if necessary, we can explain the grammar or lexical issue, and then ask the student to repeat the utterance correctly (Harmer, 2007).
