aNDRAGOGY VS PEDAGOGY
- Andragogy: andras (man) + ago (guide)
- adult-focused teaching approach
- self-directed learners and do not depend on the teacher
- Experience is used as a learning resource
- Learning is problem centered
- Need to know why they are learning something
- Intrinsic motivators (self-steem, self-development, etc.)
- Pedadogy: paidi (child) + ago (guide)
- child-focused teaching approach
- are not self-directed learners and therefore, they depend of their teacher
- Limited experience; therefore, it does not serve as learning resource
- Learning is subject centered
- They are told what to learn
- Extrinsic motivators (good grades, rewards, etc)
(Pappas, 2015)
andragogical strategies
Roleplay/Scenario Based Learning Creating roleplay scenarios where teachers must problem solve makes them relate the lesson to real-life situations and gives the instructional coach the opportunity to ask questions to further challenge the adult learner on how to solve the problem and apply what they are learning to their classroom (Storm, 2023)
Project-Based Learning Project-based leaning is a model that educators can employ with their adult learners to encourage them to partcipate more creatively in the learning process since it avoids the monotony of the lecture style (Tulazizah, 2023).
