If I were you, I would accept this job
Ejemplo: If I had a million pounds, I would buy a beautiful house on the coast.
Ejemplo —I have the summer off and I want to visit as many countries as possible. Where would you go if you had six weeks off? —If I were you, I would go to Europe. If you went there, you could see multiple countries in a day! —But if I did that, the planning would be a nightmare. I wouldn’t relax if I had to buy tickets every day. —It would be easy if you bought an Interrailing ticket. If you had one, you would be able to travel all over with no stress. —That sounds perfect! I will look into it.
¿Cuándo se usa el condicional segundo?
El condicional segundo se utiliza comúnmente para: dar consejo o hacer una recomendación; Ejemplo: If I were you, I would go to Europe. hacer una pregunta hipotética; Ejemplo: Where would you go if you had six weeks off? {info::¿A dónde irías si tuvieras seis semanas de vacaciones?}} imaginar una vida diferente; Ejemplo: If I lived abroad, I would miss my family a lot. poner excusas. Ejemplo: I’m so sorry, if I didn’t have to work, I would come to your party.
👉 Estructura:
Warning‼️
👉 Ejemplos:
If I won the lottery, I would move to Japan.
If he were his father, I wouldn’t allow such behaviour.
If I were a man, I would wear colourful ties.
Warning‼️
If I were you vs. If I was you
En el condicional segundo, el verbo be en la oración subordinada (if clause) puede conjugarse como were en lugar de como was con la primera y tercera personas del singular (I, he, she, it). El significado es el mismo en ambos casos, aunque were se considera más formal que was.
Ejemplo:
If he were possible, I would stay in five-star hotels for the whole trip.
= If it was possible, …
If it weren’t so busy at the beach, we would go more often.
= If it wasn’t so busy …
La fórmula que se utiliza comúnmente es if I were you. Se usa sobre todo para dar consejos.
Ejemplo:
If I were you, I would go to Europe.
Alternativas a would
Ejemplo:
If you went to Europe, you could see multiple countries in one day.
Travelling might be easier if you had a bigger budget.
Ejemplo:
If I won the lottery, I would retire early. = I would retire early if I won the lottery.
Ejemplo:
If I did that, the planning would be a nightmare. (coma después de la oración subordinada)
The planning would be a nightmare if I did that. (sin coma)
❗❕Truco
¡Recuerda! Las palabras if y would nunca se usan en la misma oración: Ejemplo: If I knew the answer, I would tell you. No: If I would know the answer, …❌
