’eix del tronc és la columna vertebral, formada per 33 vèrtebres. Pel seu interior passa la medul·la espinal. La columna vertebral té cinc parts: la zona cervical, al coll la dorsal, a l’esquena la lumbar, a la zona abdominal el sacre el còccix
’ la part superior del tronc hi ha la caixa toràcica: formada per les costelles, l’estèrnum i les vèrtebres dorsals. Les costelles són ossos plans i corbats, units a l’estèrnum per un fragment de cartílag aquesta combinació de teixit ossi (dur) i teixit cartilaginós (més tou) facilita l’expansió i la contracció del tòrax.
