What happens when teachers do not complete PDCP within the time frame allowed?
- Money and time invested by district staff lost
- Teacher has to sit out an entire year before returning to the program or classroom.
- Eligible as a long term sub but less pay and no benefits.
- Often lose the teacher to other states.
- Coursework within the program can be saved up to ten years if they choose to re-enter with another 5 year temp certificate if remaining in the state.
Why teachers don't complete PDCP on time?
- Feel overwhelmed with "regular" teaching responsibilities
- District, school, individual staff does not realize the work load and requirements for temp teachers
- Feel they are not supported at the school level
- Torn between time for PD vs. school events/"to do's"
- Personal life
School consequences of not providing adequate support for Alt Certified Teachers
Expensive tests
Struggle with stress and often quit teaching
Absenteeism
Refuse to participate in the training necessary for mastering FL educator accomplished practices (FEAPS)
We can overcome these obstacles!
