Past simple with Be

The verb 'be' becomes 'was' or 'were'.

• Positive
• I / he / she / it was
• We / you / they were
• Negative
• I / he / she / it was not
• We / you / they were not
• Questions
• Was I? / he? / she? / it?
• Were we? / you? / they?

Past simple regular and irregular verbs

We use the past simple to talk about actions or situations in the past

The past simple is often -ed (regular verbs) For example:work --> worked stay --> stayed start --> started

Some verbs are irregular. The past simple is not -ed. Here are some examples:begin --> began break --> broke do --> did have --> had go --> went lose --> lost

We use did in past simple negatives and questions:

do / does (present) --> did (past)

We use did / didn't + infinitive (watch / play / go etc):
