The verb 'be' becomes 'was' or 'were'.

Past simple regular and irregular verbs

We use the past simple to talk about actions or situations in the past

The past simple is often -ed (regular verbs) For example:work --> worked stay --> stayed start --> started

Some verbs are irregular. The past simple is not -ed. Here are some examples:begin --> began break --> broke do --> did have --> had go --> went lose --> lost

do / does (present) --> did (past)

We use did / didn't + infinitive (watch / play / go etc):
