1. Read the first and last paragraph and try to predict the text..

CRISIS ROBS SPAIN’S YOUTH OF JOBS AND HOPE

The economic crisis hasn’t favoured Spain. Small businesses feel abandoned by the government, layoffs are getting bigger the unemployment rates, and a whole generation of recent college graduates see a future without possibilities.

In early July, Iñigo Ortega went to check his bank account. Nothing left! He had gone completely broke. Since March, Ortega had been employed in an architectural firm, specialized in luxury restorations and renovating hotels in historic buildings. That is not surprising. The economic crisis is keeping tourists away. It was bad luck that Ortega had spent the last four years working as a freelancer without a long-term contract that would have enabled him to claim unemployment benefits. He has sued the firm for the unpaid social security contributions, overtime hours and a holiday pay. He can’t stand the fact of being "in my late thirties and dependent on my parents again." As the country confronts one of the worst crises, first-time jobseekers are being hit especially hard. No other country in Europe has as many unemployed youngsters in the same situation as Ortega. Sociologists call this group the neither-nor generation. The term describes young people who are neither studying nor working and have nothing in their lives that they can get excited about. Eva Reina, after getting her secondary school degree, she wanted to make her living, so she entered to work in a company called Coiper, which manufactures towers for wind turbines, she got an employment contract for six months. Her boyfriend hasn’t found a job for four months. "There aren't a lot of choices here in Ponferrada," Reina says. "What will we do if everything here closes?" "We've hardly started university and we're already disillusioned," says Julia Berrade. Like others her age, Berrade gets upset whenever she thinks seriously about her career prospects. A year ago, her elder sister finished a journalism degree and she speaks English and French fluently. But she didn't get any of the many jobs she applied for. Instead of hiring, companies are sacking people. Julia would like to study journalism too, but ‘Now I’m not sure at all’ .https://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/generation-neither-nor-recession-robs-spain-s-youth-of-jobs-and-hope-a-638981.html

LISTENING TRANSCRIPTION

A I work on Saturdays and in the school holidays. Saturdays are busy because that’s when everyone goes shopping. Our shop sells clothes and accessories for men, women and children. I work in the children’s department. It can be crazy sometimes, but it’s fun. B I work during my summer holidays when I’m not at university. Oxford has thousands of tourists in the summer, so it’s easy to find a job as a tour guide. I take tourists to visit the university colleges and then we go down to the river. We go along the river on a boat. The tourists love the boat trip, but last summer one tourist fell in the river! I love meeting people from all over the world. C I like my job, but lots of people don’t like coming to see me because they hate dentists. Sometimes it’s very hard work, but it’s great to help people when they have a problem. It’s so important to look after your teeth. D My job is very difficult, but I like it because I love flying. I fly planes that take people to different places on holiday. Most of the time I fly in Europe to places like Spain, Greece and Italy. The most difficult thing about my job is when the weather is bad. Snow and thunderstorms are the worst. The best thing is visiting different places. E I work in a hospital in the city centre. It’s a very big hospital. I help the doctors with the patients. I give them their medicine and look after them when they feel ill. I love my job but I don’t like the uniform and sometimes I have to work at night. https://learnenglishteens.britishcouncil.org/skills/listening/elementary-a2-listening/work
