Technology & Structure
Technology
- Will it be on an LMS or somewhere else?
- Will it be tracked?
- Will it be required?
- Will it be video-based?
Structure
- Is this preparation, follow-up, standing-alone training, performance support?
- Is this formal or informal learning?
- How expert are the learners?
- What types of resources will you use?
- Will they be released all at once or in a continuous stream?
- How long will resources be?
Promotion Strategies
- Immediately intuitive navigation
- Fresh content
- Competition or free offer
- User testimonials and reviews
- Awards and accomplishments (badges)
- Games with division leaderboard
- Provide a tease into similar content
- Linked from our department webpage
- Mentioned in classes
- Regularly release additional micro-program and cross-promote
Use as many communication channels as possible. Improving Searchability - Materials should be accessed in two clicks or 10 seconds or learners will find it somewhere else. If they don't know it exists, they can't use it. Create Stickiness - If they don't remember it exists, they won't use it.
Questions to Ask
What behavior are we looking to change or inspire?
- What will they come away with?
- Who will use this?
- Identify terminal and enabling learning objectives.
- Terminal - Be able to do by the end of the training "Big picture"
- Enabling - the pieces of training that will get the learner to the terminal objective
- Learner Experience = Learner Choice where it makes sense
