This study aims to determine the significant effects of caffeine on cognitive performance among CACI BSAeE students. In addition to this, it will help the researchers provide college students with additional information regarding caffeine intake.

Caffeine consumption is an ancient habit. Different cultures discovered that chewing seeds, barks, or leaves of certain plants containing this substance had the effects of easing fatigue, increasing awareness, and elevating mood (Fredholm,2011). Caffeine (1,3,7-trimethylxanthine) is a heterocyclic organic compound with a purine base called xanthine, consisted of a pyrimidine ring linked to an imidazole ring (Tarka,1998). According to Farah (2019), caffeine has been the subject of extensive research for its long history of use and elevated consumption worldwide both in natural foods and in medicines. In the study of ABIC—Associação Brasileira das Indústrias de Café, overconsumption should be avoided in children, especially on a regular basis and over a long period of time. It is noteworthy mentioning that in some Latin American producing countries, such as Brazil and Colombia, for example, people start drinking coffee with milk early in childhood.

Energy drink is a term that is used to describe a wide variety of beverages that contain caffeine, taurine, guarana, sugar, vitamins, herbal supplements, and other ingredients. The increase in popularity of energy beverage consumption is also evident among students in high schools and colleges who reportedly use these products to give them “the edge,” an increased alertness and decreased mental fatigue, that they believe they need to complete various tasks in the academe (Morata, 2013). The “Healthy Beverage Options Act of 2011” which regulates the availability of beverages to children in schools and for other purposes was introduced by Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago and was approved in the Fifteenth Congress of the Republic of the Philippines in February of 2012. This Act shall apply to all schools in the Philippines whether public or private. The Act includes prohibitions of the following beverages that shall not be provided or sold at schools: soft drinks, sports drinks, punches, and iced teas; fruit-based drinks that contain less than 50 percent real fruit juice or that contain additional sweeteners; and drinks containing caffeine.
03. STatement of the problem
The study will assess the cognitive performance of the CACI BSAeE students from the effects of caffeine for their further development in academic performance.
Specifically, it will seek to answer the following questions 1. What are the factors of cognitive performance, among CACI BSAeE students, that are affected by caffeine intake? 2. What are the positive effects of caffeine on cognitive performance among CACI BSAeE students?
3. What are the negative effects of caffeine on cognitive performance among CACI BSAeE students?
