School

School and differences

Subjects

there are 5 obligatory subjects: English, Mathematics, LCVP, Guidance and (for Irish students) Irish. then everyone chooses 4 subjects at will between: Biology, Engeenir, Chemistry, Art, Spanish, German, AG science, P.E, Design, Music, Home Ec., Geography and Business and I chose: Chemistry, Spanish, Biology and Home ec.

relationship with teachers

the relationship that the teachers have with the students is way more better, they put less pression than in Italy and try to meet the needs of the students.

educational system

the classes are divided between High, Ordinary and Foundation Level, and from the levels where you are you get different points for your grades, that will be added to create the grade of the Leaving Certificate that will allow students to enter the university. and there is no failing.

Uniform

school uniform

a peculiarity of Ireland is that all schools have the uniform with school's shield. mine was with: white shirt, blue jumper, navy pants and the obligation of black shoes, and we also had a P.E: uniform. It was forbidden any piercing, tattoos, hair of "crazy" colors, and it was allowed to have only a pair of small earrings. Sometimes we had a surprise uniform check.

Food

typical food

Ireland doesn't have a particular typical dish, they take inspiration from differnt cultures especially the British. But those who are considered typical are:

  • Irish Stew
  • Full Irish Breakfast
  • Scones
  • Mince pie

Weather

warmer months

statistically the hottest months would be July and August, however, since I left in June, according to my experience the hottest month was June

colder months

according to my experience the coldest months were not continuous, they were November, February, March and April, in which the temperatures also reached -8 degrees and it snowed

Host Family

relationship with host family

living with a host family can be as easy as difficult, because not being your family you can not find meeting points or simply in my case, not talking much and having a host sister, opposite to me, very open, for me was pretty difficult the integration with the family. this was our second family because both my host sister and me were in another family, but for some problems we had to move

Interactions

interactions with the others

with the Irish

the interaction with the Irish guys was really hard, they all year had prejudices about us Exchange students so it was really hard to talk to them, then this is just generally, there were a few exceptions

with the exchange students

the interactions with the other exchange students were way much better, then we all had created groups based on our nationality, but still, with ups and downs we all got well

Curiosity

curiosity

flag

the flag has the colors: green white and orange and green represents the Christians, orange protesters the white peace between them

sport

the most popular sports in Ireland are: Gaelic Football, Hurling, Rugby and Socker
