PLAGIARISM & AI PROGRAM USE

If you are in English 10-1 and are caught either plagiarizing or using any AI program for your literary analysis writing, you will be automatically transferred to English 10-2. The following applies to both English 10-1 and English 10-2 students.

• Your assignment will receive a zero, and you will be required to rewrite on a different topic.
• A note about the use of plagiarism and/or an AI program will be noted in PowerSchool.
• The Administration will be notified of the use of plagiarism and/or an AI program.
• Writing will be put through multiple programs to ensure consistent results regarding plagiarism and/or AI use.
• The teacher reserves the right to have any student complete any of the written assignments by hand (no computer).
• Students will be taught how to use new AI technology as a starting point for their writing, but written work will be expected to be at least 80% their own ideas and content (outside of properly cited sources).

CELL PHONES

Cell phones should not be used during class time. Your priority is learning the material provided, practicing skills, and getting prepared for final exams in January.

MISSED WORK

If you are away during one of these designated days, you will write an alternative assignment the first day you return.

All reading comprehension assignments and written assignments (eg: essays) will be completed in-class during the semester.

DUE DATES

Students are expected to hand it work on the due dates provided. These will be clearly indicated on the website. Assignments will be accepted for a course mark until one week after the start of a new unit. After that, the assignment will be accepted for feedback only. (The resulting grade will not be entered into PowerSchool.)

Much Ado About Nothing

Synopsis

Count Claudio falls in love with Hero, the daughter of his host. Hero's cousin Beatrice (a confirmed spinster) and Benedict (an eternal bachelor) are each duped into believing the other is in love with them. Claudio is deceived by a malicious plot and denounces Hero as unchaste before they marry. She faints and is believed dead, but recovers to be proved innocent by a chance discovery. Benedict wins Beatrice’s love defending her cousin’s honour, and to his surprise, Claudio is reunited with Hero, who he believed dead.

The Lord of the Flies

Synopsis

William Golding’s 1954 novel "Lord of the Flies" tells the story of a group of young boys who find themselves alone on a deserted island. They develop rules and a system of organization, but without any adults to serve as a civilizing impulse, the children eventually become violent and brutal. In the context of the novel, the tale of the boys' descent into chaos suggests that human nature is fundamentally savage.

Wargames

Synopsis

High school student David Lightman unwittingly hacks into a military supercomputer while searching for new video games. After starting a game of Global Thermonuclear War, Lightman leads the supercomputer to activate the nation's nuclear arsenal in response to his simulated threat as the Soviet Union. Once the clueless hacker comes to his senses, Lightman, with help from his girlfriend, must find a way to alert the authorities to stop the onset of World War III.
