Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer, poet, editor and literary critic who is best known for his poetry and short stories, particularly his tale of mystery and the macabre. He is considered to be a central figure of romanticism in the U.S, and of American literature; one of the country’s earliest practitioners of the short story, and is considered to be the inventor of the detective genre, as well as a major contributor to sci-fi.

Childhood and early life
Orphaned at age two, Poe grew up in the Richmond, Virginia home of a childless couple, merchant John Allan and his wife Frances. His foster parents treated him well, though Frances was Poe's primary source of affection. Allan paid for Poe's education at schools in England and in Virginia.
Famous works
Edgar Allan Poe wrote a range of novels, including but not limited to “The Raven”, “The Tell-Tale”, “The Black Cat”, “Annabel Lee” and “The Pit and the Pendulum.

19 January 1809Poe is born in
1836 Poe married his cousin, Virginia Eliza Clem Poe when she was 13 and he was 27.
1825 He became secretly engaged to Elmira Royster, whom his father disapproved of so broke of the engagement.
1849He died on the 7th of October 1849 from an unknown cause.
1847 His wife, Virginia dies of Tuberculosis at age of 24
1841 He wrote the first ever detective story in April of 1841.
