When a course is in session, instructors need to monitor learners engagement and learning progress. The Learners have to show "evidence of engagement" such as announcements, discussion board posts, and assignment submission. Instructors need to identify lagging learners and help them minimize their procrastination through appropriate monitoring and encouragement.

Strategies for Encouraging Disengaged Learners

If there are technical problems, connect them to help immediately

Contact learners who have not logged in or completed assignments

Introduce a new week with an overview of upcoming events and deadlines

Include flexibility in grading, if possible

Send a weekly email summarizing course activities at the end of the week

Ask learner feedback about your role as an instructor

Provide meaningful feedback on graded assignments

Encourage learners to articulate their confusion or difficulty

Give learners option to explore and consume course content

Differeniate lurking learners from lagging learners
