Hypothesis
Research Question: How does overpopulation impact the Earth and it's systems? Hypothesis: Overpopulation is the single greatest threat to Earth's ecosytems, responsible for the vast majority of environmental deterioration, resource depletion, and ecological imbalance.
Definition
Overpopulation: Overpopulation is a condition that occurs when more people are living in a region than the environment can support while still allowing everyone to maintain their level of living. It happens when a region's population grows faster than its ability to provide essential services and amenities for its residents (Baus, 2017). The strain on natural resources, increased pollution, reduced access to drinkable water and adequate sanitation, food scarcity, overcrowding, and diminished quality of life can all result when a population surpasses its carrying capacity (Uniyal et al., 2020). Overpopulation is a significant threat to Earth's ecosystems, which may lead to a loss of species, the degradation of habitats, and the upsetting of natural balance.
