Present Continuous
We use this form to talk about:
- Fixed future arrangements (appoinments, plans that have been confirmed)
We're seeing Ed Sheeran in concert next Sunday.
Present Simple
We use this form:
- to talk about Timetables and Schedule events
- With expressions like when, as soon as, by the time, until, after and before
Our train gets in at 7:15 am. So, we should leave home early.
Future Continuous
We use this form to talk about:
- Activities in progress at a particular time in the future
At this time next Monday, I'll be taking the FCE.
Future Perfect Simple
We use this form:
- to talk about activities that will be finishedby a certain time in the future
By the end of the morning, I will have finished the report.
Future Perfect Continuous
We use this form to talk about:
- How long an activity has been in progress before a particular moment in the future.
By 8 pm, I'll have been revising history for five hours!

- Something that is going to happen very soon
