In the ESL programs, the term “texts” refers to any spoken, written or visual communication involving the English language. "Authentic texts" refer to materials that reflect natural speech or writing as used by native speakers. Teacher-made or adapted materials may qualify as authentic if they resemble real-world texts the students will encounter.
