Battle of Pichincha

The Battle of Pichincha was fought on May 24, 1822, between the independence army, commanded by General Antonio José de Sucre, and the royalist army, led by the Spanish military Melchor Aymerich. The confrontation, carried out on the slopes of the Pichincha volcano, was decisive for the Independence of Quito and all its provinces, resulting in the formation of the Republic of Ecuador.
