Al Capone

Al Capone was born 17 January 1899 at Brooklyn, New York but he had italian’s origin.Capone was from a respectful, professional family. His father, Gabriele,was one of thousands of Italians immigrants who arrived in New York in 1894.He was 30 years old and was a barber. .At age 14 Capone was expelled for hitting his female teacher and he never went back. In a childish scrape in a brothel-salon, a gangster slashed with a knife across his left cheek and for that he was called with the nickname “Scarface”. Always at the age of 14 he met the gangster Johnny Torrio which would prove the biggest influence on him. In 1918 Capone married Mae Coughlin and took a break from the role of gangster. Capone and Mae had a son together, Sonny. In 1919 new illegal operations opened up and produced immense cash. In 1925 Torrio retired and Capone became the most important criminal of Chicago.Capone with the assistance of his brothers Frank Salvatore and Ralph infiltrated the government and police departments. In 1931 the jury declared Capone guilty of several counts of tax evasion. Judge Wilkerson sentenced him to 11 years in prison.In August 1934, Capone was moved from a prison in Atlanta to the in famous Alcatraz prison in San Francisco. Contact with the outside world was minimal. However, Capone’s sentence was eventually reduced to six and a half years for good behavior.Capone died on January 1947 of cardiac arrest at only 48 years old.

Le Statue de la Liberté

La statue de la Liberté est une statue située à New York (États-Unis), sur une petite île proche de Manhattan: Liberty Island. Son nom complet est "La Liberté éclairant le monde". Elle fut offerte par la France pour le centenaire de l'indépendance des États-Unis et inaugurée par le président américain Cleveland en 1886. Elle fut exécutée à Paris par le sculpteur Auguste Bartholdi et la charpente métallique a été réalisée par l'ingénieur Gustave Eiffel. Elle représente une femme drapée brandissant une torche de la main droite. Dans sa main gauche, elle tient une tablette sur laquelle on peut lire la date de l'indépendance américaine: "4 juillet 1776". Les visiteurs doivent monter 354 marches pour accéder à la couronne de la statue. La statue de la Liberté a été offerte aux États-Unis pour renforcer l’alliance et l'amitié franco-américaine. Symbole de la liberté, la démocratie, l'espoir, l'immigration ou encore le Rêve américain, elle est rapidement devenue un emblème national des États-Unis et un des symboles les plus universels de la liberté et de la démocratie.
