As the meeting begins, her team lead Jen opens the floor to any ideas. As her teammates begin to share ideas, Lara listens. She has been on the company retreat planning team 3 years in a row. She already knows what worked well and was a success, and what didn’t. How should Lara respond?

As the meeting progresses, Lara and Michael disagree on a retreat activity. Michael thinks an icebreaker should be included in the opening activities, but Lara said that in the past they’ve been unsuccessful and thinks they should be scrapped. How should Lara proceed?

Jen tells the team that the budget for this year's retreat is a big concern. The budget has been significantly reduced and this means the event will have to be held somewhere else, perhaps somewhere less appealing than in previous years. If they could find more money, then they could have the event at the same location as last year, which everyone agreed was a nice place. Lara knows from previous years that there are other funds from other budgets where there were leftover funds or a surplus. She knows that she can reach out to the accounting department to verify. How should Lara proceed?

The Retreat was a success!

Great collaborative communication skills!

Lara's collaborative communication skills and active participation contributed to a successful company retreat. Her ability to actively listen to her colleagues, her respect for the contributions of others, and her willingness to contribute to the discussion with constructive feedback helped her team work together to come up with a successful event. Participants left the retreat feeling motivated, equipped with improved skills, and ready to apply them in the workplace!

The Retreat was o.k.

some of lara's collaborative communication skills need improvement

Lara's team did end up planning the company retreat, but for the most part, they just re-created the same type of event as in previous years. While Lara contributed to the teams' efforts in some ways, she shared limited information, refused to compromise, and delegated jobs to others rather than to attempt to solve a problem. This caused the retreat to lack innovation. While employees felt a small benefit from the retreat, they did not experience a significant increase in skills or feel a renewed sense of motivation.

the retreat was Dissapointing

Lara's collaborative communication skills needs lots of work.

The company retreat was disappointing. Lara didn’t share much in the team meeting at all. She did not contribute any ideas, refused to comprise, and didn’t help the team solve any issues that arose during their planning. As a result, the retreat left employees feeling disengaged and frustrated. As a matter of fact, workplace morale is strained, and there is now tension on the team among members.
