Gagne's Nine Events

Gagne's Nine Events of Instruction acts as a guide for designing engaging courses. It was used when creating the wireframe and other design documents for this project. Gagne's 9 events are as follows:

1) Gain Attention 2) Inform of Objectives 3) Stimulate Recall of Prior Learning 4) Present the Content 5) Provide Guidance 6) Elicit Performance 7) Provide Feedback 8) Assess Performance 9) Enhance Retention and Learning Transfer

1) Gain Attention

For example: - using catch words, quotes - using thought-provoking phrases and sentences - creating compelling stories - showing video clips

Applying this to 'Module 1: Effective Questioning in the Early Years':- Wireframe outlines the benefits to the learner and what they will experience during the course. Screenplan further details use of video and VO.

2) Inform of Objectives

For example: - Using SMART to create objectives - Using Bloom's Taxonomy to create objectives.

Applying this to 'Module 1: Effective Questioning in the Early Years':- Informs learners of the course objectives. These were created in Part 1 of the project, using SMART targets and Bloom's taxonomy.

3) Stimulate Recall of Prior Learning

For example: - Relating the new lesson to situations that the learners are familar with. - Ask questions about previous experiences.

Applying this to 'Module 1: Effective Questioning in the Early Years':- Wireframe suggests activation of video in which learners can reflect on their childhood.

4. Present the Content

For example: - Vary presentation methods. - Use videos, scenarios, case-studies, simulations, games.

Applying this to 'Module 1: Effective Questioning in the Early Years':- Wireframe suggests mixture of ways to present the content, from knowledge presentation, nursery scenarios, quiz type activities and reflection tasks.

5. Provide Guidance

For example: - Present lessons in small steps. - Case studies and analogies can guide learners in the right direction. - Integrate online collaboration aids. - Include short 'check your knowledge' activities.

6) Elicit Performance
