REPORTED SPEECH

Activity 1:Rewrite the sentences in reported speech, changing the verb tenses and the pronouns appropriately.

1. ' My sister isn't well.' ⇒ She said that _________ . . 2. ' I called you.' ⇒ He said that ______________ .

PERFECTPARTICIPLE CLAUSE

It can be used when one action is completed before another action.

Examples:

1. After she had finished the assignment, Laura decided to watch TV. ---ACTIVE VERB- Having finished the assignment, Laura decided to watch TV. (HAVING + PAST PARTICIPLE)

1. Once he had been told what he needed to do, Julian finally started working. --- PASSIVE- Having been told what he needed to do, Julian finally started working. (HAVING BEEN + PAST PARTICIPLE)

In negative perfect participle clauses, both NOT and NEVER can be used.

Examples:1. Not having expected that question, I wasn´t sure what to say. 2. Never having thought about that issue, I had to do some research.
