L4 IQA QUALS
Proposed way forward:
- Majority of DiT is at L5. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to study at L5. Typically applicants will hold a qualification at least 1 level above the levelthey teach for vocational subjects. If applicants teach HE, they must hold a degree. Mapped to the IfATE standards for the Learning & Skills teacher:
- L2 English and maths as entry requirements
- GLH = 360 hours (~5 hpw per year, part-time). TQT min 1200 hrs
- Teaching placement increases to 250 hours comprising
- - a minimum of 150 hours teaching and 100 hours professional practice
- - a minimum of 100 [of 150] hours teaching must be in trainees' subject area
- - a minimum of 20 hours [of 100] must be remote synchronous delivery
- - a minimum of 80 [of 100] hours teaching must be face-to-face
- The placement must comprise a minimum of 2 [two] locations, with a 2nd placement of at least 20 hours. The 2nd placement should include a different subject area. The 20 hours can comprise observation, CPD etc, and counts within the 100 hours professional practice.
- 2 mentors (in addition to tutor); 1 subject-specialist ("who is teaching the trainees' subject area), 1 pastoral. Training mandatory.
- 10 observations (increasing from 8). Two can be remote/live-online. One can be observed remotely (including a recording)
- Final assessment by 2 qualified teachers, 1 from Provider, 1 from Awarding Organisation
L5 DET becomes L4 DiT (FES) from Sept 2024
