Son palabras que acompañan a los sustantivos.
Structure: Article + Subject + Verb + Article + Noun
Example: The boys kick the ball

The Definite Articles
The definite article

The definite article: the
Cumple la función de el, la, los y las, lo que implica que acompaña sustantivos femeninos, masculinos y neutros, sin hacer diferencia si están en singular o plural.
Lo utilizamos cuando creemos que el oyente sabe a cuál persona, cosa o lugar se refiere el sustantivo.
Examples:
1. I bought a comb and a pencil yesterday. The comb is black and the pencil is red.
2. The book on Mr. Allen's desk is yellow.
3. I like the hat that you are wearing.
note: The no se usa con nombres de personas, idiomas, la mayoría de los paises, calles, o la hora del día
Some Exceptions: 1. The Missisippi River is in the United States. 2. The Dominican Republic is in Latin America. 3. The Netherlands is in Europe.
Examples: 1. Mr. Smith is my teacher. 2. We are speaking English. 3. Mary is going to Costa Rica. 4. John lives on State Street. 5. He goes to class at eight o'clock

The indefinite article
A / AN
The indefinite article:
Los conocemos como una o uno . Son artículos indefinidos porque aunque habla de una sola cosa no nos especifica cuál. NO se utiliza para acompañar cosas que no se pueden contar. Se utiliza A cuando el sustantivo que lo acompaña inicia con un sonido de consonante. Y AN cuando inicia con sonido de una vocal. Son formas debiles atonas de uno. Usamos one cuando enfatizamos el numero.
EXAMPLES:
A university is an institute that provides higher education.
A glass of water.
One boy arrived late, not two. A boy arrived late, not a girl.
