On the 13th of May 1787, the 11 ships of the First Fleet sailed from England to establish a penal colony in Australia.
the ships carried 1000 convicts, officers, crew, Marines and their families.
It took 252 days for the 6 convict ships, 3 store ships and 2 Royal Navy escort ships to complete the journey.
48 people died on route but over 1,400 survived to establish the first European outpost in Australia on the 26th of January 1788.
