He died in Paddington, an area of the Borough of Westminster in central London. It is a former London borough but was integrated into Westminster in Greater London in 1965.

The immigrant bear from 'mysterious Peru', with his old hat, battered suitcase, and jam sandwich, has become an icon of English children's literature. The Paddington Bear books have been translated into 30 languages, under 70 titles, and have sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. More than 265 licenses have been issued for the reproduction of various objects in the UK, Europe, USA, Asia, Japan, Australia, and South Africa.
Always polite, kind, and well-meaning, he has an infinite capacity for getting into trouble. He loves marmalade and hot chocolate.
