A trackball mouse is a pointing device consisting of a ball held by a socket containing sensors to detect a rotation of the ball about two axes—like an upside-down ball mouse with an exposed protruding ball.
Attached to a hugely expensive, wholly futuristic personal computer that utterly failed to sell.
Mice with mechanical moving parts were found to be somewhat unreliable, and by the late 1970s, Xerox had come up with an improvement to the now common trackball with a mouse.
