Question tags: equal stress falls on both the auxiliary and the subject.

  • If we genuinely don't know the answer, we tend to use the rising intonation of a question, e.g, You haven't seen my keys, have you? (I don't know if you've seen mu keys)
  • If we are not asking a real question, but are just making conversation or asking for confirmation of something we already know to be true, our intonation falls and the question tag spunds like a statement, not a question, e.g. It's a beutiful day, isn't it? (I know you will agree with me)
