DescriptionA person who is not able to hear as well as someone with normal hearing – hearing thresholds of 20 dB or better in both ears – is said to have hearing loss. Hearing loss may be mild, moderate, severe, or profound. It can affect one ear or both ears and leads to difficulty in hearing conversational speech or loud sounds.
People who are hard of hearing usually communicate through spoken language and can benefit from hearing aids, cochlear implants, and other assistive devices as well as captioning.
'Deaf' people mostly have profound hearing loss, which implies very little or no hearing. They often use sign language for communication communication and speech cognition education and employment: In developing countries, children with hearing loss and deafness often do not receive schooling. Childhood and adolescence: chronic ear infections, collection of fluid in the ear, meningitis and other infections. Adulthood and older age: chronic diseases, smoking, otosclerosis, age-related sensorineural degeneration, sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Factors across the life span: Cerumen impaction, trauma to the ear or head, loud noise/loud sounds, ototoxic medicines, work-related ototoxic chemicals, nutritional deficiencies, viral infections, etc.
Besides, symptoms of hearing loss may include: Muffling of speech and other sounds.
Trouble understanding words, especially when in a crowd or a noisy place.
Trouble hearing the letters of the alphabet that aren't vowels.
Often asking others to speak more slowly, clearly and loudly.
Needing to turn up the volume of the television or radio.
Staying clear of some social settings.
Being bothered by background noise.
Ringing in the ears, known as tinnitus.

Teacher's role
The school communities have to provide adjustments and modifications to the curriculum. For example, the modifications of materials and activities. Technology plays a significant role in enabling learning and participation, and options for use of adaptive, assistive, and specialized technology applications should be fully explored. Children with hearing loss can do well in school, but they often need extra help to learn at their full capacity. Every child is different. This handout can help schools find ways to meet the needs of the child with a hearing loss.
They have to work in sig nificant collaboration with specialists, family members and the students themselves. - Pause during lessons. Take time to be sure the child understands what was said.
- Repeat and/or rephrase information when needed.
- Talk slowly and clearly. Use a comfortable volume.
- Change your speech pattern, rhythm, stress and tone. - Use visual models and cues.
- Provide a peer note-taker or lecture outlines to help with understanding what the lesson was about.
- Be aware of how close you are to the child. The closer you are, the better they can understand him - Face the child when speaking. Do not turn your back and speak while writing on a board.
- Seat the child where they can easily turn and follow classroom discussion - Arrange chairs in a circle. This allows the child with hearing loss to interact well with other classmates.

Stregths
Some students who are Deaf or hard of hearing can achieve similar results to their peers academically.Some students are strong visual learners, and are able to mentally hold and manipulate visual information (e.g. picture an object and rotate that picture in their mind).
Deaf and hard of hearing students may also show a high level of resilience, especially in their determination to understand a concept, complete a task and master a skill.

People should talk to them always from the front
People should not exagerate their volume voice.
Maintain visual contact
Always talk directly to them even if they have an interpreter.
They should talk with the students with a normal volume voice to avoid disturb them .
People should always speak to them from the front and not from behind and avoid touching them without warning.
Strategies and resorces a teacher should use in this case.
The teacher should check the sound equipment before the class to see if it is adapted to the volume needed by the student. And do not seat the student in front of a window or projector if there is one.
the teacher should block any sound that interrupts the student's attention by using curtains. And try to seat the students in a circle.
The teacher should provide more written activities for that students and if it is necessary write the instructions specially for them.
