MAKE THINGS HAPPEN
Why are you taking this course with me?... there's another class in Spanish ...
How do you feel about taking an Electronic's course in English?
What is you worst fear?
What do you need to make this course work for you?
In class we all need to speak English, even if you're speaking to a classmateChismes in English!
We are here to learn Electronics
So... Spanglish is ok!
Do we all agree to this? What happens if someone break this agreement?
All class work is given in written form before teacher explanation
No one is perfect, even the teacher makes mistakes and it's ok! (gives them permission to make mistakes in front of the class)
Questions need to be made in English, and will be answered in English
* for students with a very low level of English, more personal attention was needed(some code-switching was necessary)
Teacher explanation has a lot of visual aides, and also explains the work document
Frequently ask if they understood *ask for others' help to say in different words
Chisme in English! * bring something of my own to share with them
Most of the work in class is done in teamsOpportunity to practice English casually!
Vocabulary check!
Teacher asking students how to say something in English... they felt it gave them permission to make mistakes but speak anyways
Students practiced reading technical texts in English
Students practiced writing and speaking about the analysis and opinions in English
Students were happy to talk in English with each other
The use of "translanguaging" (Spanglish) was a great tool to inspire confidence and enable understanding complex topics
Students helped each other out with the vocabulary
