The apollo space program
On 25th may 1961, the American president John Fitzgerald Kennedy gave his country a crazy promise: he said that NASA would send a man to the moon before of 1970s.
After those declarations, NASA created the Apollo program. In this program, there were created 11 rockets. During one launch pad test in the rocket “Apollo 1”, three astronauts died, but the program was never stopped, also after the death of JFK.
On 19th July 1969 the Apollo 11 with three astronauts on board, Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, started to orbit around the moon and on 21th July two of three astronauts walked on the moon: the mission was completed!
After Apollo 11, there were other Apollo spacecrafts to land and orbit around the moon, but the projects were too expansive, and after the last mission of Apollo 17 in 1972, no one more landed there.
