Dans certains contextes, la consonne <t> se prononce avec un flap. On le transcrit par ce symbole : [ ɾ ]. Ce son ressemble à un [d] mais il est articulé différemment. En effet, la pointe de la langue vient taper de façon très brève et très légère les alvéoles supérieures (la partie haute des gencives supérieures). Il faut, pour produire ce son correctement, que ce contact entre la pointe de la langue et les alvéoles supérieures soit très rapide et léger.
