Carbon Information

Date of Discovery

Carbon was discovered in 3750 BCE by the Egyptians and Sumerians

Who discorverd carbon?

Antoine Lavoisier was the person that discorved Carbon

How did carbon got it's name?

The word carbon probably derives from the Latin carbo, meaning variously “coal,” “charcoal,” “ember.” The term diamond, a corruption of the Greek word adamas, “the invincible,” aptly describes the permanence of this crystallized form of carbon, just as graphite, the name for the other crystal form of carbon, derived.

Protons, Nuetrons & Electrons

It has an atomic number of 6. That means a carbon atom has 6 protons, 6 neutrons, and 6 electrons.

Were it can be found?& How it can be made?

Carbon can be found on Earth, most carbon is stored in rocks and sediments, while the rest is located in the ocean, atmosphere, and in living organisms. The process for making carbon fibers is part chemical and part mechanical. The precursor is drawn into long strands or fibers and then heated to a very high temperature without allowing it to come in contact with oxygen. Without oxygen, the fiber cannot burn.

4 Physical Descriptions:

Melting Point:

Soft, dull gray or black non-metal that you can scratch with a fingernail

6.422 Fahrenhiet

Physical State:

Boiling Point:

Carbon is solid at room temprature.

88700 Fahrenhiet

Any use of Carbon?

Yes, there are comman use of Carbon. Carbon compounds regulate the Earth's temperature, make up the food that sustains us, and provide energy that fuels our global economy.

Interesting Facts:

It forms more compounds than any other element, it is sometimes called the "King of the Elements, and CARBON IS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON ELEMENTS IN THE UNIVERSE

Thanks!
