Instructions

each group must do a brainstorming and list different ways in which educational technology can be used to enhance cognitive processes, such as attention, memory, problem-solving, and critical thinking. I am giving you 5 minutes to gather as many ideas as possible. Afterward, you will choose 1 group MEMBER to present the group ideas to the class and facilitate a discussion on the potential impact of these ideas.

objectives

1. define the conceptual definition of cognitivism theory; 2. recognize the importance of theory in teaching and learning focusing in the use of technology;

VIDEO

Cognitivism, as a theoretical foundation of educational technology, focuses on understanding how people acquire, process, and use knowledge. It emphasizes the importance of mental processes such as perception, memory, attention, and problem-solving.

it is a learning in which a child develops cognitive pathways in understanding and physical response to experiences. In this theory, students learn most effectively through reading text and lecture instruction.

  • Paradigms of Learning
  • Educational Theories of Learning

theory developed by Jean Piaget

Bandura pioneered theories branching from cognitivism, including social cognitive theory. Through this theory, psychologists seek to understand how children learn through, among other things, cognitively processing and storing social experiences.

Albert bandura

“The principle goal of education is to create men who are capable of doing new things, not simply of repeating what other generations have done-men who are creative, inventive and discovers”

jean piaget

+INFO

  • Mind as a "Black Box"
  • Learning is explained as a "recall" of stored information
  • Instruction usually grabs the attention of learners and helps make sense of the information so it can be stored more readily stored (learned) later for recall.

+INFO

  • Schema Theory is defined as a mental representation of something previously known, including actions, events, and perspectives. These are the building blocks of knowledge.
  • Gestalt Theory states that perceptions are entirely dependent upon the whole and not of the individual parts. All of our understanding is built upon whole objects, events and not of their small parts.
  • Equilibrium is the state in which our minds exists before we learn something new. The process, called "adaption" by Piaget, flows as follows:
  • Equilibrium-->New Situation/Schema-->Disequilibrium-->Accomodation-->Assimilation

What is the significance of cognitivism through the use OF educational technology?

students will be engaging in hands-on activities that will simulate the cognitive processes involved in learning. Afterward, facilitating a discussion on the cognitive strategies employed.

Group 1What is pattern recognition? and Connect these strategies to the theories of cognitivism and discuss how technology can facilitate and enhance these cognitive processes.

Group 2What is logical reasoning? and Connect these strategies to the theories of cognitivism and discuss how technology can facilitate and enhance these cognitive processes.

Group Activity

instructions

The class will be divided into four (4) groups and will work on different tasks. They will be given 7 minutes to work on this activity.

questions to be answered

Group

Give me your own definition of cognitivism. And share minimum of two (2) life experiences on how your teacher uses cognitive approach for Educational Technology.

01

What are some examples of educational technology tools or platforms that effectively incorporate cognitivist principles to enhance students’ understanding of concepts and their future career applications?

02

questions to be answered

What are the potential challenges or limitations in applying cognitivist principles to educational technology, and how can they be addressed to maximize the relevance and application of concepts for students?

03

How can educational technology support the development of critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and decision-making processes, which are crucial for students to apply concepts in real-world situations and future careers?
