About Me

Hi, my name is Lucas Cheze and I am a student currently attending the University of Arizona, where I am pursuing a major in Urban and Regional Development. I have always been fascinated by the way cities evolve and grow, and this program allows me to delve deeper into understanding the dynamics of urban spaces. Looking ahead, my passion for urban development and my love for the outdoors have aligned with my aspirations for the future. I am keenly interested in the field of property development, with a focus on creating sustainable and livable communities that seamlessly integrate with their natural surroundings. I believe in the power of well-designed spaces to enhance people's quality of life and contribute positively to the environment. I am excited to combine my academic knowledge, practical skills, and passion for the outdoors to make a difference in the world of urban development. Through my studies, experiences, and future endeavors, I hope to contribute to the creation of innovative and environmentally conscious projects that harmoniously blend urban living with the preservation of nature. In my free time, you can find me exploring new hiking trails, capturing moments with my camera, and engaging in activities that foster my personal growth and connection to the world around me. I am eager to embark on this journey and see where it takes me in the realm of property development and beyond.

Internship Reflection

During my internship at Plan Estratégico Metropolitano de Barcelona (PEMB), I had the opportunity to immerse myself in a new cultural and professional environment, which brought about both positive and negative experiences. Coming from the United States, I initially faced challenges adapting to the internship in Barcelona, but I ultimately thrived and gained valuable insights. Adapting to the internship in Barcelona was a transformative experience. Initially, I faced language barriers and had to familiarize myself with the Spanish work culture. However, I approached these challenges with an open mind and a willingness to learn. Over time, I developed stronger language skills and adjusted to the more relaxed work culture, appreciating the emphasis on building relationships and seeking consensus within the team. Three positive aspects of my internship were the exposure to urban planning in a vibrant city, the opportunity to work on diverse projects, and the chance to collaborate with professionals from different backgrounds. Being in Barcelona allowed me to witness firsthand the complexities of urban planning in a dynamic and culturally rich environment. The exposure to diverse projects, such as urban revitalization and sustainable mobility, broadened my understanding of the field. Collaborating with professionals from different backgrounds brought fresh perspectives and enriched my problem-solving skills. Despite the positive aspects, there were also challenges during my internship. Three negative aspects included the occasional language barrier, the limited time available for certain projects, and the fast-paced nature of some assignments. Although I improved my language skills, there were instances where communication was still challenging. Additionally, the time constraints on certain projects limited the depth of analysis and exploration. Moreover, the fast-paced nature of some assignments demanded quick turnarounds, which at times impacted the opportunity for thorough research and analysis. Throughout my internship, I learned invaluable lessons. Firstly, I gained a deeper understanding of community engagement in urban planning and the significance of incorporating diverse perspectives. Secondly, I learned to navigate complex urban challenges while considering sustainability and social inclusivity. Lastly, I honed my project management skills by balancing multiple tasks and deadlines, improving my ability to prioritize and work efficiently. Overall, my internship abroad brought about significant personal growth. I became more adaptable, resilient, and culturally aware. Immersing myself in different work culture and collaborating with professionals from diverse backgrounds broadened my perspective and improved my cross-cultural communication skills. This experience allowed me to develop a greater appreciation for global perspectives and the importance of flexibility and open-mindedness in professional settings.
