JUPITER

The fifth planet in the solar system and also the largest

Today i will tell you everything to know about Jupiter

Can we live there ?

jupiter's atmosphere has no oxygen. If you plan to go there, make sure to take plenty of it...

01

Jupiter is made of mostly hydrogen and helium gas. trying to land on it would be like trying to land on a cloud here on Earth.

the average temperature is approximatevely -110 degrees celcius.

jupiter composition

  • Did you know that Jupiter has the largest ocean of our solar sytem but... made with hydrogen and not water ?!
  • As a Gas Giant, Jupiter doesn't have a true surface. The planet is mostly swirling gases and liquids. While a spacecraft would have nowhere to land on Jupiter, it wouldn’t be able to fly through unscathed either

Jupiter's core is about 20.000km diameter, and its atmosphere 21.000 km, composed of Hydrogen (90%)and Helium (10%).

MOONS

Jupiter's icy moon Ganymede is the largest moon in our solar system, even bigger than the planet Mercury, and the dwarf planet Pluto.

Ganymede’s subterranean ocean could have more water than all the water on Earth's surface (it is liquid water)

Europa might be the best place to look for environments where life could exist. Europa has twice as much water as Earth's oceans combined, and it has a very thin atmosphere with oxygen (but not enough to breath)! It is the smallest of the 4 main moons of Jupiter. Europa's surface is mostly solid water ice.

Callisto is Jupiter’s second largest moon and the third largest moon in our solar system. Its surface is the most heavily cratered of any object in our solar system. A day on Castillo is about 17 Earth days. It doesn't have rings.

Jupiter's moon Io is the most volcanically active world in the Solar System, with hundreds of volcanoes, some erupting lava fountains dozens of kilometer (or miles) high. It was dicovered in january 1610.

Voyager 1 and 2 discover Jupiter's faint rings, several new moons and volcanic activity on Io's surface.

Astronomers observe as pieces of comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 collide with Jupiter's southern hemisphere.

Galileo Galilei makes the first detailed observations of Jupiter and dicovered Io.

Ulysses swung by Jupiter on Feb. 8, 1992

2016: NASA's Juno spacecraft arrives at Jupiter, conducting an in-depth investigation of the planet's atmosphere and deep structure.

Pioneer 10 becomes the first spacecraft to cross the asteroid belt and fly past Jupiter.

Why Jupiter didn't become a star

For the simple reason that it is not massive enough to have the internal pressure and temperature necessary to cause hydrogen to fuse to helium, the energy source that powers the sun and most other stars.
