august

august pullman is a ten-year-old boy with a facial malformation that prevents him from leading a normal life. he undergoes many surgeries and partly for this, and partly out of fear of the reaction of the other children, together with his parents, they decide to have a family education and not to practice a public school. but then, his parents decide that is time for him to go to school with the other children, and they make him visit beecher prep school. the principal, mr. kiap decides to show him the school by three students: jack will, charlotte,julian. they will play a very important role in the story

via

via, wich stands for olivia, is august's older sister. when he describes his family, he does so by speaking of planets revolving around the sun, where the sun is august. in fact, everyone is only intrested in him, it is as if they live only for him, around him.

summer

summer is august's friend, she's the only one who sat next to him in the cafeteria on the first day of school. they've found one thing common about their names: she's called summer(summer) and he's called august(august), wich is a month of summer. at the table they are left alone, because no one wants to sit nex to the child(august). she considers them stupid because she gets on well with him, while the others see him as a monster.

jack

he is one of august's best friends, along with julian and charlotte, he was asked by mr. tushman at the beginning of the year to be one of august's welcoming buddies. they're friendship, however , goes trough a rough patch due to an event on halloween. knowing that julian along with a lot of other people tought it was weird for being friends with august, he made fun of him with julian. he mocked his apparence and said that if he had august's face, he would kill himself. they didn't realize that august was actually sitting in the room, as he came dressed as a bleeding scream, rather than boba fett, as he had originally planned.

justin

unfortunately he is a static character. justin is a high school kid who is particulary good at theater. he will become via's boyfriend, even though she said she was an only child. when he first saw august's face, he was a little surprised, but then he was nice and kind to him.

miranda

miranda is olivia's best friend, she grew up with her and with august(considered her little brother) from an early age. then, the friendship between her and via, seems lost, but miranda cannot give up contact with august.

story

August Pullman, known as Auggie, is a 10-year-old boy with a severe craniofacial malformation, caused by Treacher Collins Syndrome, which prevents him from leading a normal life. In order to see, hear and breathe normally, he had to go through 27 surgeriesand , fearing both health complications and the reactions of others children, he never attended school, always reciving private lessons. When it's time for him to enter sixth grade, his parents decide to send him to school for the first time along with the other children, at Beecher Prep School. The principal, Mr. Tushman, delegates three students named Julian Albans, Jack Will and Charlotte to show him around the school. Julian turns out to be suspicious and unpleasant and Charlotte shows that she can only make friend with a great effort, while Jack immediately takes a sincere liking to Auggie. Once at school, Auggie proves to be an excellent student but spends his day alone. Even during the lunch break, nobody ever sits at his table. At some point Jack decides to approach him and the two forge a bond of friendship. Halloween day Auggie, wearing a costume, witnesses a despicable conversation about him between Jack and other companions (who don't realize that he was there) , hearing Jack say that he is only pretending to be his friend at the request of the headmaster and who would rather kill himself than have a face like his mate's, Auggie, bitter, decides not to speak to Jack again. Jack after a lot of time, understends that August was offended because he had heard the bad things that he said behind his back. He apologizes by writing to him via the minecraft chat, and the two become friends again. In the same period similiar experience happens to Via, recently engaded to a boy , who reconnects with her historical best friend Miranda, from whom she had distanced herself due to problems of acceptance. Over Christmas Auggie also befriends a little girl named summer at school. Towards the end of the year, the school organizes a school trip, which Julian doesn't participate in because he was suspended due to bullying Auggie. During the trip, Auggie and Jack are attacked by three older boys , unexpectedly, Julian's friends Henry and Miles come to their aid . Auggie, at the end of the school year, gets an important recognition from the principal: initially mocked and marginalized for his appearance, he has become an example and has made friends with everyone.
