When I was little I used to spend a lot of time in the center of Bogotá because my school is in the center of Bogotá in the San Bernardo neighborhood, my school takes the name of the neighborhood, San Bernardo de La Salle. I also studied the university in the center, at the Universitidad del Rosario.

Parque Tercer Milenio is a place in the center of Bogotá that has changed a lot in a positive way in the last 2 decades. Twenty years ago it was the most dangerous neighborhood in the city, where 90% of the city's drug traffic was distributed and today it is a quiet place where children and families can enjoy different attractions.

Before this place was called La Calle del Cartucho, it was located between 6th street and 9th street, and between Carrera Decima and Avenida Caracas. Calle del Cartucho was a place mainly inhabited by homeless people, prostitutes, drug dealers, and criminals. It was a dangerous, bustling and ancient place in the center of Bogotá, very close to the presidential house and the City Hall.

People claim that Calle del Cartucho concentrated a large part of the problems that Bogotá had, for this reason in 2004 an operation was carried out that took control of this place. Hundreds of police and military arrived to evict the homeless and capture criminals who were hiding in these streets.

As the months passed, the government demolished the houses in this sector to begin the construction of the Parque Tercer Milenio where today there are bicycle paths, fields with stands for different sports, places for sales, public bathrooms, parking lots, playgrounds and has a free internet place. The dangerous Calle del Cartucho was forgotten, today Parque Tercer Milenio is a pleasant landmark that improved the appearance of downtown Bogotá.
