It is considered one of the most important events in Japan during winter.In 2007 (58th Festival), nearly two million people visited Sapporo to see hundreds of snow statues and ice sculptures in Ōdōri Park and Susukino Park in downtown from Sapporo, and in Satoland, located on the outskirts. Since 1949, the International Ice Sculpture Competition has been held in Ōdōri Park, and fourteen teams from various regions of the world participated in 2008
