REVIEW
Director (1986)
Repentance, remorse, but most of all a desire to start over: a great human story that moves and engages the viewer.

Mission "Mission" is a 1986 film directed by Roland Joffé. Set in the 18th century, the film tells a story of adventure, conflict, and redemption in the context of Spanish colonization in South America. The plot primarily takes place in the jungle of the Iguazú Falls region where a Catholic mission run by Spanish missionaries aims to convert and protect the indigenous Guaraní people. The main character, Rodrigo Mendoza, (qua devi spiegare chi è, se no non si capisce) a former mercenary and slave driver, decides to join the missionaries after a tragic event that deeply affects him/shakes him to the core (qua decidi tu quale ti ricordi meglio). The plot focuses on the conflict between the Spanish colonizers and the missionaries, who wish to protect the Guaraní from slavery and violence. The protagonist confronts his past actions as he tries to help the missionaries defending/safeguarding (qua decidi tu quale ti ricordi meglio) their community and their culture. The film deals with complex issues such as colonization, religion, redemption, and the struggle for justice. The plot leads viewers to reflect on the moral and ethical ideas of the characters' actions and on the tension between colonial interests and humanitarian values.
MY COMMENT cast of absolute excellence made me realize something very important, and precisely we are talking about an ecclesiastical authority who, although convinced of committing a grave humanitarian error, still followed the law of material goods, while, those who lived on material goods, trampling on people and enslaving them, finding themselves having to live together with them chose to die so as not to betray them.
